Your heart and the heat

The heat wave literally puts Europe in its headlock. What is unpleasant for healthy people can cause serious problems for people with heart diseases. Keeping the body temperature on a steady level stresses the heart. A drop in blood pressure caused by the combination of an increased blood flow to the skin and dehydration, may lead to dizziness or falls.

The heat wave literally puts Europe in its headlock. What is unpleasant for healthy people can cause serious problems for people with heart diseases. Keeping the body temperature on a steady level stresses the heart. A drop in blood pressure caused by the combination of an increased blood flow to the skin and dehydration, may lead to dizziness or falls.  
But how to beat the heat?
•    Take it easy, shift physical activities to the evening or early morning.
•    Drink enough but avoid sugary soda or fruit juices, caffeinated beverages or alcohol.
•    Eat light and smaller meals (e.g. soups, salads or fruits).
•    Try to cool down either in an air-conditioned surrounding or with a cool shower/bath or with an ice pack.
