EXCOR Active winner of the Horizon Impact Award!

The Horizon Impact award recognizes and celebrates outstanding projects that have used their results to provide value for society. The winner of this prestigious award in 2020 is the “MACH” project - a cooperation between RWTH Aachen, Newcastle upon Tyne Hospital and Berlin Heart GmbH to develop and launch a mobile driving unit for the EXCOR® ventricular assist device. The EXCOR® Active provides mobility and autonomy to hospitalized children with end-stage heart failure waiting for a heart transplant.

„The new EXCOR® Active provides a whole new level of flexibility and mobility when caring for our patients. Activities of a normal life such as walks on the hospital grounds are now suddenly possible. The various mobilization options and the extended battery operation time that the new driving unit offers, give young patients and their parents much more mobility and freedom, increasing their level of independence and quality of life significantly“

Prof. Dr. med Nikolaus Haas, LMU Klinikum Munich
