Clinic for Pediatric Heart Surgery implants the Berlin Heart in an infant for the first time

The team at the Clinic for Pediatric Heart Surgery and Surgery of Congenital Heart Defects at RWTH Aachen University Hospital, led by Clinic Director Prof. Dr. André Rüffer, has implanted an artificial heart in an infant for the first time.

 

 

 

On January 2, 2024, the pediatric heart surgery team at the University Hospital RWTH Aachen, under the leadership of Prof. Dr. med. André Rüffer, achieved a groundbreaking milestone by successfully implanting an artificial heart in a baby named Theo.
The three-hour surgery proceeded seamlessly, offering a newfound opportunity for six-month-old Theo, who had previously faced heart failure.
