blood vessel

Tubular hollow bodies through which the blood reaches the individual organs and cells.

Blood vessels include arteries, veins and capillaries. The arteries carry blood away from the heart, while the veins carry blood to the heart. The capillaries are very fine blood vessels that enable the exchange of oxygen and important nutrients from the blood into the surrounding organ tissue.
