angiography

Visual representation of the blood vessels by X-ray.

During an angiography, a contrast medium is injected into the bloodstream and a series of X-ray images are taken in rapid succession. Based on these images (angiograms) of the heart, the physician can recognize whether any diseases are present in the coronary arteries.
